Anna Leyland is a contemporary New Zealand Artist. She graduated from Unitec, Auckland in 1999 with a Bachelor of Design in Visual Communication. After freelancing as a Graphic Designer and Artist since 2000, she has now been working as a full-time Artist since 2012.
The primary focus of her work has shifted from Portraiture in the last 6 years to a contemporary conversation about Aotearoa. Utilising pattern making and symbolism, her works discuss the beauty of Multiculturalism, which is so prevalent in Aotearoa, 'Land of the Long White Cloud'.
She has successfully exhibited in over 30 exhibitions since 2001. These include being a finalist in the National Portraiture Exhibition in Wellington in 2006 and exhibiting in New Zealand Fashion Week 2008 and 2013. In 2014 her work was once again featured in NZ Fashion Week where she was also invited to design the front entranceway; a 3 x 2 metre revolving door.
2015 was a huge year for her work and exposure. In July 2015 ‘Mr Vintage’ invited her to create an Artist Series for the well known NZ T-shirt company and in December she was commissioned by the International company ‘Nespresso’ to create an artwork for their new flagship store in the heart of Auckland City, Queen St. Subsequently this work was then featured in the NZ Herald’s Viva and also on two of the forefront online NZ Design websites; Denizen and Idealog which also included a personal interview.
